5.0 & 5.1 MAIN PROGRAM: Release
history in reversed chronological order: |
| Version |
Date |
Comment/Reason
for update |
| 5.001.030 |
2003-08-17 |
Adjustement and improvement:
PubMed has changed its downloading routines and GetARef has been adjusted to
benefit from this. It is now easier than before to 'refine' searches: after
completing a search it is possible to select individual references by
double-clicking on their PMID numbers and then simply search again. |
| 5.001.029 |
2003-07-09 |
Bug fix: The height of the
upper part of the dialog used to edit individual references was not always
correct and as a consequence the edit boxes for the year, issue, etc.,
sometimes were not fully visible. |
| 5.001.028 |
2003-03-15 |
Adjustment: The condensed
presentation format from PubMed has changed (the text displayed by GetARef
in the dialog Tools|Import from PubMed after the user clicked Search)
and therefore GetARefs code had to change. |
| 5.001.027 |
2002-12-03 |
Bug fix: An error related to specifying format file libraries in GetARef's
Tools dialog was introduced in release 5.001.026 (affect document completion and
generation of reference lists). This has been fixed. |
| 5.001.026 |
2002-11-24 |
Improvement:
It has for a long time been possible to customize the font used to display examples in the
dialog "Edit a format file" (Format|Edit format file) but previously
the selected font was not automatically used in subsequent sessions. The font to be used
can be selected in the dialog's menu (View|Font for sample display) or the popup
menu activated by clicking the right mouse button in the sample text and selecting the
command Change display font. |
| 5.001.024 |
2002-10-13 |
Improvement #1: GetARef now makes of the 'Pick a file' dialog when the
destination file in the dialog Tools|Import from PubMed.
Improvement #2: GetARef was
previously unable to import references with many (>10) author names from PubMed.
Improvement #3: GetARef's
ability to handle line breakes within pseudo-citations of WordPerfect documents has been
improved. |
| 5.001.023 |
2002-09-19 |
Enhancement: The MEDLINE format of Medlar no longer provides links to full
text versions of papers. This data is, however, available in the XML format and moreover,
the XML format uses a richer character encoding system. GetARef not makes use of the
XML format when importing directly from PubMed.
Bug fix #1: Additional letters
to avoid ambiguity (e.g., 1997b) was by mistaken dropped for citations with the 'year
only' attribute.
Bug fix #2: Groups of
pseudo-citations were always sorted alphabetically if they all shared the same 'text
before'. |
| 5.001.022 |
2002-08-25 |
Bug fix #1: In some situationen the check box to request GetARef to ignore
diacritic signs during finding and tagging was disabled.
Bug fix #2: There was no effect
of setting the attribute of a citation to 'First in group' if citations in a group were to
be sorted chronologically.
Bug fix #3: Some attributes of
pseudo-citations were ignored when completing WordPerfect document and text before and
after pseudo-citations were sometimes inappropriately trimmed. |
| 5.001.021 |
2002-08-06 |
Enhancement #1: This installation package should install GetARef's Add-in
for Word XP (Word 2002) with most Word installations.
Enhancement #2: The logic behind
identifying duplicates differs slightly when sorting the display order, creating lists or
sorting reference files. The methods have now been reshaped to minimize inconsistences as
well as the number of 'false alarms' with respect to duplicates.
Bug fix: The tabular edit
controls for editor names and transators did not fit the assigned window and for that
reason the right column 'jumped' to the left when entering personal names. |
| 5.001.020 |
2002-06-30 |
Bug fix #1: GetARef didn't automatically sort the reference file if reprint
numbers for added or removed (Edit|Appy reprint number) but all tagging was
unnecessarily removed.
Bug fix #2: GetARef
unnecessarily removed all tagging if a single reference was deleted.
Bug fix #3: When GetARef
completes a document it creates an out document with a name of the type OldName_OUT.xxx,
i.e., GetARef adds '_OUT' at the end of the file name. GetARef was previously unable to
create a correct out file name if the path or the document name contained a full stop
('.'). |
| 5.001.019 |
2002-06-04 |
Additional feature #1: It is now possible to customize GetARef's internet
access using the Internet tab on the dialog Tools|Options. It is
possible to specify that GetARef should automatically check for updates and to specify a
proxy server.
Additional feature #2: GetARef
now not only warns after document completion but also inserts a warning into the generated
Word document when any pseudo-citation contains '{{' (this typically indicate that a
pseudo-citation of a citation group lacks the terminating '}}').
Bug fix:
Reference lists generated in the Rich Text Format could previously not always be opened in
a word processor. |
| 5.001.018 |
2002-03-24 |
Additional feature: It is now possible to generate reference lists in the
HTML format.
The explore this new feature, download the sample format files HTML_Short.for and HTML_Long.for to your
format directory. Use HTML_Long.for with a suitable reference file to generate a
reference list in the HTML format with the name LongFile.htm and use HTML_Short.for
to create the file ShortFile.htm (don't include the comment in the lists). The resulting
file ShortFile.htm will contain a simple reference list with the text 'Abstract' following
each reference providing a link to LongFile.htm that contains the references and their
abstract.
Bug fix: During
document complettion with release 5.001.017, GetARef always attempted to complete
WordPerfect files using Word. Users without Word installed would get an error message
whereas those with Word installed would get a result that would not look exactly as when
using GetARef's routines for WordPerfect |
| 5.001.017 |
2002-03-16 |
Bug
fix: Due to a recently introduced bug GetARef was unable to print references via the
command File|Print although printing by generating 'reference lists' was
possible. |
| 5.001.016 |
2002-03-10 |
Adjustment: To adapt to WordPerfect Office 2002, GetARef's handling of the
Clipboard when creating pseudo-citations and formatted references had to be modified; this
does not affect users of Microsoft Word or other word processors (new macro files are on
their way for WP 2002 users).
Bug fix: GetARef crashed when
encountering large groups of pseudo-citations all with the 'year only' attribute. While
such groups never are useful when producing manuscripts, GetARef should behave sensibly if
they inserted by mistake. |
| 5.001.015 |
2002-02-21 |
The
update build called 5.001.014 (see below) by mistake did not contain the most recent
files. To not cause further confusion, especially with regard to GetARef's command Tools|Check
web for update, the correct build was given a new version number. |
| 5.001.014 |
2002-02-19 |
Bug fix #1: GetARef did not always include correct references in reference
lists from a reference file when the reference file was opened, contained deleted records,
and was displayed in any sorting order other then 'original'.
Bug fix #2: When dragging
references from a reference window with only tagged references displayed, the wrong
references were dragged (as evident from the message displayed by GetARef). |
| 5.001.013 |
2002-01-13 |
Bug
fix: GetARef did not display correctly text containing a single '#' (unless it was a part
of a code string). Before the correction the identification string 'Signals #12' would be
displayed as 'Signals ' in the reference display mode and as '#12' in the reference
editor. |
| 5.001.012 |
2001-12-29 |
Adjustment #1: If the format file specified the journal name format 'As in
reference file', GetARef did not check the journal name database to see if
the journal required issue specifications in formatted references. GetARef now always
attempts to figure out the issue is required.
Adjustment #2: In alphabetically
sorted reference list it's possible to specify in a format file that repeated author names
should be 'skipped' (usually replaced by, e.g., '---'). This worked with document
completion but not also with the command Tools|Create reference lists.
Bug fix #1: When clicking the
button Apply to All formats in the dialog for defining fields in format files,
sometimes the definitions of other fields were ruined.
Bug fix #2: When opening a
format file for editing the check box Skip repeated author names was
inappropriately always cleared.
Bug fix #3: The format files of
version 5.1 is different from previous versions. Old format files are automatically
adjusted to the new format. Sometimes, however, some field definitions disappeared during
this process. |
| 5.001.010 |
2001-10-14 |
Bug
fix: Recently introduced error caused subscript and superscript to displayed incorrectly. |
| 5.001.008 |
2001-10-06 |
Bug fix #1: The re-introduction of correct national alphabetical sorting
orders (2001-10-02) had the side effect that when sorting references by author names,
references without authors were not automatically put at the beginning of the list.
Bug fix #2: It is possible to
reset the style of text in the dialog for editing and adding references. Neither the 'N'
button, nor the acceleration key Ctrl+Space did always work as intended to 'normalize'
selected text.
Bug fix #3: Japanese authors
names entered with the Shift-JIS character set were not handled correctly when edited in
the author names tables of the dialog for editing and adding references. |
| 5.001.007 |
2001-10-02 |
Bug fix #1: Character sorting according to various national alphabetical
orders did not work with only a few exceptions.
Bug fix #2: When adding the ISSN
field to an 'old' format file, odd things sometimes happened to the definitions of other
fields.
Bug fix #3: There was a mismatch
between the style of displayed examples of single citations and the corresponding settings
in the style combobox in the dialog Edit a format file; the eventual format was
correct but not the displayed example. |
| 5.001.006 |
2001-09-30 |
Adjustment: Because GetARef's web site has been slightly reorganized
GetARef was unable to check the web for updates.
Bug fix #1: GetARef did not
always find the correct help file when a user requested help (for instance in the dialog
"Edit in text mode").
Bug fix #2: GetARef by mistake
did not erase temporary files used when importing references from PubMed. |
| 5.001.005 |
2001-09-22 |
Bug
fix and improvement: For references with journal names and ISSN, the journal name was not
presented corrected in the dialog for reference editing. If known, GetARef always presents
the ISSN of a journal (either from the journal name database or the reference itself). |
| 5.001.004 |
2001-09-20 |
Bug
fix: GetARef was unable to handle superfluous full stops in fields with author names
(e.g., "Smith, A. ."). Such a construction should normally
never occur in fields of authors, editors and translators but still was possible to enter
in the dialog field and than caused a run-time error. |
| 5.001.003 |
2001-09-19 |
Bug
fix: GetARef did not provide any error message but still failed to load format files
created in GetARef 4.0-5.0. |
| 5.001.002 |
2001-09-11 |
Bug
fix: GetARef stored ISBN correctly for edited books but not for monographs. |
| 5.001.001 |
2001-09-09 |
Improvement #1: Two new reference fields: ISBN and Translators'
names, and three new fields for formatting: ISSN, ISBN and Translators'
names.
Improvement #2: Special controls
to edit links from references to disk files, web documents or web sites. |
| 5.000.006 |
2001-08-15 |
Adjustment:
GetARef was unable to display Greek characters in some Windows systems, including Windows
2000. This has been fixed. |
| 5.000.005 |
2001-05-27 |
Bug
fix: The size of the list view window was not updated when the list between the single
reference display and list display was moved to the left or to the right. |
| 5.000.004 |
2001-05-01 |
Improvement: GetARef's ability to handle line breakes within
pseudo-citations of WordPerfect documents has been improved.
Bug fix #1: The 'LED' to the
left of the tag box did not correctly indicate the formal structural status of the
displayed reference when the display order was sorted.
Bug fix #2: Speed buttons were
not refreshed after using the Locate dialog. In particular, the buttons to display only
tagged references could be inappropriately active or inactive when the Locate dialog was
closed.
Bug fix #3: Although prepared to
export records in the RIS import format of both CHAP and BOOK types, only CHAP
records were exported.
Quirk: The English dialog
Tag status by mistake included some labels and caption in Swedish. |
| 5.000.003 |
2001-04-22 |
Improvement: While editing a manuscript with pseudo-citations, one may
unintentionally delete one of the curly parentheses, e.g., "{Brown, 1998}}" or
"{{Brown, 1998}". The first kind of error is easy to handle because this
pseudo-citation will ot be recognized by GetARef and therefore appear unmodified in the
final OUT document. The second kind of error, i.e., an erroneous termination of the
pseudo-citation, may be more problematic. Previously GetARef warned if no termination was
found within a reasonable distance from '{{'. It is, however, possible to have a second
pseudo-citation within 'reasonable distance', e.g., "... {{Brown, 1998}. This was
also shown by Smith {{Smith, 1992 <Year only>}}." In this case, all
text from "Brown, 1998}.." to "..<Year only>" will be taken as a
user comment and therefore discarded. With this version, GetARef provides a warning if
this kind of construction are detected in a manuscript.
Bug fix: GetARef took into
account the publication dates when displaying preview data from PubMed but not when
actually downloading the references from PubMed. This has been corrected.
Quirk: GetARef did not allow two
strings to be entered in the list of 'previous search expression' of the Tag dialog if the
strings were the same except for their case. E.g., once "au(brown)" had been
entered, "AU(Brown)" was not accepted unless the version in lower cases was
first removed. |
| 5.000.002 |
2001-04-04 |
Addition: There is a new speed button corresponding to GetARef's
command Tools|Import from PubMed.
Bug fix #1: GetARef can
automatically re-sort the display order of a reference file, e.g., after a reference has
been added to the file. This re-sorting typically is quickly done but while this was done
it was previosly possible to access the reference file, e.g., by opening the edit dialog
window, and this sometimes caused strange error messages to appear (e.g., Out of
memory).
Bug fix #2: If 'over-write' was
selected for an opened reference file when importing references and the reference file
ended up empty because no references could be opened, GetARef became unstable.
