6.0 MAIN PROGRAM: Release history in reversed chronological order:
Version Date Comment/Reason for update

Bug fix: GetARef did not acknowledge the use of Greek characters unless additional formatting directives had been applied in the edit boxes of the Add/Edit a reference dialog.

6.000.014 2005-06-27

Bug fix: The ISSN number uniquely identifies journal names and can therefore be used to disambiguate journals names (for instance, 'Gastroenterology'). GetARef, however, ignored the ISSN when formatting references.

6.000.013 2005-02-14

Bug fix: Since version 6.000.011, GetARef has not saved formatted text correctly (i.e., text with any other format than 'normal') from the dialog used for editing and adding references.

6.000.012 2005-02-13

Bug fix #1: When GetARef was closed, Windows rarely fired an explosion of error messages. Although no formal error has been found, the code has been re-arranged and this 'error problem' appears to have vanished.

Bug fix #2: References may contain more than 16.000 characters but for large references, GetARef did not always display the abstract correctly. This has now been fixed.

Bug fix #3: 'Enhancement #1' dated January 30 (6.000.011) was a bit overzealous and could remove also appropriate character combinations (such as '.,').

6.000.011 2005-01-30

Enhancement #1: GetARef now automatically corrects obvious errors in formatted references (such as double comma characters or spaces before full stop). Unless special care is taken when creating format files, sometimes the resulting output may include unwanted spaces.

Enhancement #2: When handling text with a mixture of ANSI and Shift-JIS characters (Japanese characters), the edit dialog did not always handle formatting directives correctly.

Bug fix: GetARef can check if there are program updates available (command Tools|Check Web for update; compare Internet tab of Tools|Customize GetARef...). If updates are available then a special dialog appears and when its button Download is clicked the appropriate web page is opened; the name of this page has now been corrected.

6.000.010 2004-10-07

Adjustment: GetARef has been adapted to recently introduced modified download formats of references in preview and complete format from PubMed.

Bug fix: GetARef inappropriately closed if the path of a document was 'too' long when the used clicked the button Open document file after completing a document (an 'OUT' file).

6.000.009 2004-09-09

Enhancement: Improved handling of the dialog for adding and editing references (in particular, better handling of missing journals and avoiding inappropriate formatting of specific input fields such as the publication year).

Bug fix: If all characters in a field had the same non-standard format (e.g., all bold or all Greek characters), GetARef ignored the formatting.

6.000.008 2004-08-15

Enhancement: Once the dialog Tools|Import from PubMed is closed, the last imported reference is displayed if the target reference file is open.

Bug fix #1: The help hint text describing the formal status of individual references was not always correct when the display order was not 'original'.

Bug fix #2: When displaying 'tagged only' references, the list display was not always changed to 'display all' even if all tagging was elminated by a search expression.

6.000.007 2004-08-15

Improved handling of auto-completion of search expression (commands Find, Tag och Locate)

6.000.006 2004-06-06

Improved support for processing Latex documents

Version Date Comment/Reason for update
6.000.013 2005-08-15

6.000.012 2005-05-14

The routines for importing the RIS import format have been modified to (19 import any address field (AD) and (2) to handle non-standard features in some suppliers' use this format.

6.000.011 2005-03-08

GetARef failed to import abstracts from PubMed downloads (offline and via Tools|Import from PubMed)

6.000.010 2005-02-13

SciFinder can generate records that are huge and this previously could cause GetARef to termiante inappropriately.

Free text bibliographies:GetARef is better than before to identify bibliographies in free format (e.g., reference lists from manuscripts).

All import routines ca now handle records with unusually long titles and abstracts (including 'search terms').

6.000.009 2005-01-30

WebSPIRS has recently changed its download formats for BIOSIS and CAB files and GetARef's import routines have been modified accordingly.

RIS Export format: GetARef now handles non-standard author names and also attempts to import records representing monographs and chapters from edited books.

Free text bibliographies:GetARef is able to import bibliographies (free text format). As before, however, the quality of the import depends strongly on whether or not the journal names exist in GetARef's journal name database.

6.000.008 2004-10-07

Adjustments: (1) PubMed has recently changed its XML format and GetARef has been adjusted to handle the new format. (2) The XML format now includes the DOI number (Digital Object Identifier) of recent references and this number is retrieved by GetARef. The DOI numbers that can be used as URLs to open the corresponding electronic version of the document. Finally, GetARef identifies references 'aheadofprint' and marks them as such in the identifier string.

6.000.007 2004-08-15 Bug fix: GetARef was unable to import the format 'Current Contents from TELNET' (this format is used by other suppliers than TELNET)
