- Reference
files created with GetARef 3.2 can be used without modifications.
The journal name databases used with GetARef 3.2
can be used with GetARef 4.0 without modifications. It is suggest, however, that the old
and new database is merged using the tool MergeJDB that is included
with GetARef.

- GetARef 4.0
fully exploits features in Windows 95, 98 and NT to create a user-friendly interface that
resembles other major Windows applications.
- Markedly
improved online help including bubble help, overviews, multitude of cross-referencing, and
more.
- References
may be displayed singly, in a list view or in a new combined view.
- MDI
application: several reference files can be simultaneously opened and references can
easily be copied from one file to another by means of 'drag-and-drop'.

available to customize the user interface, e.g., what colors, fonts and font sizes to use
when displaying references.

adapts dynamically to the work habits of the user.
- Spawns
interruptible threads for potentially time-consuming operations. This enables a user to

- It has been
updated with biomedical journal names (April 1999).
- It includes
a new abbreviated journal name format: Chemical Abstracts.

the journal name database is saved magnitudes quicker than with GetARef 3.2.

- Improved
support for Microsoft Word users: there is no longer necessary to use a route via Rich
Text Format files but manuscripts in Word's own DOC can be 'completed'
directly. Likewise, reference lists can be created in the native Word document file
format.

support for WordPerfect users: seamless integration with WordPerfect with the help of
specially designed macro files. GetARef can handle document files of WP 5.1 - Corel
WordPerfect 8.
